Sant Andreu de Llavaneres. A millenial village

Sant Andreu de Llavaneres is a village situated between the sea and the mountain, at just 35km from Barcelona. Belong to El Maresme region and limits with Mataró at the west, with Sant Vicenç de Montalt at the east, Dosrius at the north and with the Mediterranean at the south.

About the meaning of the village’s name there’re two different versions. One says it comes from the verb labour (fountainhead), so the latin name lab-and-arias, will transform into the fatal word Llavaneres. the other versions considers that the name comes from the name Labinaria (landslide), and so, that would be the origin of the name Llavaneres.

Llavaneres cookery; the Llavaneres pea

Guia Gastronómica 2008 de Llavaneres

Sant Andreu de Llavaneres it’s recognized for its great gastronomic culture. For the antiquity of the village and the inevitable influence of different cultures which have inhabited it through the time and therefore had left their own traces in all our typical plates.

One of the most known products of our cookery are the peas of Llavaneres, which we invite you to taste at the Gastronomic Sample and the Pea Party celebrated every year during the April month. In Llavaneres we cultivate the pea known as Garrofal Pea. Its origin supposedly comes from an specific adapted variety to the carob zone of the area. It’s mainly characterized for the sweetness of its fruit. It’s sowed on October at the silicic and sandy land with the seed produced by the same countrymen of the village. The harvest starts on May and it takes one or two months.

Peas from Llavaneres are commercialized mainly through direct sale in small village shops. We recommend you, even though, to taste them at the typical recipe known as “Guisantes rehogados al estilo de Llavaneres†that you could find at the village restaurants during the Pea Party organized on April.
