David and Alex Charles, absolute winners of the MedSailing Meeting

The absolute winners have said to be really satisfied with the trophy but also with the experience “It has been a high level race. We’ve competed in 420 with the first 10 of the national rankingâ€. Charles brothers have won the most disputed award. Where there has been a tie between 4 classes.
In this edition of the MedSailing José Mª van der Ploeg and his crew on board of the Nilfisk (CN El BalÃs) have been proclaimed Champions of Catalonia in J80 with just 6 points. Followed by their club partners, the Akewele feminine crew under the command of Andrea Cornudella. The bronze has been for the Mikaku of LluÃs Corbella (RCN Barcelona).
Carlos Robles and Florian Trittel (CN El BalÃs) have reached the 29er Catalan Champions tittle. The silver has gone for the Garraf’s couple: Martà Llena and Oriol Mahiques. While Miguel Angel Mateo has been Champion of Catalonia of the Finn class.Â
The spectacular, the dynamism, the youth and the rivalry have been the ingredients of this exquisite cocktail of classes at the MedSailing Meeting. El BalÃs has turned into a sea of sails, where more than 70 professionals and volunteers have made of this edition a successful one.
Nowadays conditions have required the most to the regatta’s committee. Who has given races for all the classes, except of the Optimist. In this class, Carla Munté (CN Salou) imposed herself to the international fleet. The 2nd classified has been Antonio López (RCR Cartagena) and the 3th classified has been David Wilson from the ZVYC of South Africa. Carlos de Maqua (CN Arenys de Mar) has been the winner of the group 2 of Optimist and Nil Subirats (CV Palamós) of the group 3.
The winners of the 420 category have been the locals David Charles and Alex Charles, followed by Santi Mas and Jaime Menescal (CN Masnou) and Xavier Antich and Ramon Lleonart (CN S’Arenal). Joan Tomás and Joan Méndez (CN Premià ) have imposed themselves in Disabled Sailing. Alberto Guillén (CN Salou) in Radial Laser, Josep M. Nogués (CN Cambrils) in 4.7 Laser and Miguel Noguer Lloret in Standard Laser – his father, Miguel Noguer Castellvà has been the leader at the Master class -. Toni Bonet (CM Altafulla) has imposed himself firmly in Techno 293. Salvi Borrat and Sergi Pérez (CN l’Estartit) in RSFeva, Marc Verdaguer (CN l’Estartit) in Fx-1. Oriol Nuet and J.M. Bellod (CN Mar de Aragón) in F18. In Yacht: Almaran NY (CN El BalÃs) has been the 1st classified of the classics, Duende 50 (CN Arenys de Mar) at the RI with crew and Surribulli (CN El BalÃs) at the Solo.
At the price giving ceremony we had the presence of Sant Andreu de Llavaneres Mayor, Mr. Bernat Graupera, Caldres d’Estarc Mayor, Mr. Joaquim Arnó and Sant Vicenç de Montalt Mayor, Mr. Miguel Ãngel MArtÃnez. Along with Gerard Esteve and his Commodore, Pepe Sánchez. All of them have expressed their satisfaction with the excellent development of the competition as well as the huge national and international participation of the event.

El BalÃs will welcome this weekend more than 500 sailors who will participate at the MedSailing Meeting. A multiclass regatta in which will be celebrated races of the highest level and mass meetings of dinghy sailings and cruises:
- Optimist: 144 sailors between 8 and 15 years old. Participant sailors from South Africa, Malta, Ireland and also Santander, Murcia and Gran Canaria.Â
- 420: 20 boats from Catalonia and the Balear Islands. The podium will be competed by the Spanish absolute and feminine Championship.
- 9 29er will contest the Catalan Championship. We will find the two first classified at the Spanish Championship. Carlos Robles and Florian Trittel, the actual youth champions, will be among them.Â
- Fx-1 and F18: 12 catamarans will amaze us with their speed in this catamarans meeting without precedents at El BalÃs.
- Laser: up to 60 lasers are expected to take part at the race. From the youngest ones (U17′s) to the masters.
- Windsurf: 22 boards from all around the Catalan coast will participate at the MedSailing, which scores for the Spanish Championship. Toni Bonet, the actual Spanish Champion, will be among the sailors.
- In disabled sailing, 5 crews will compete with the Ding1hy Handicap crew, constituted by the new and increasing RS FEVA and Finn crew. With that, the MedSailing achieves the highest sail integration for everyone.
- 14 crews of J80 monotypes will celebrate the Catalan Championship. Among them we will find José Maria van der Ploeg, the actual second world champion and Barcelona’s gold medal.
- 20 Classic yacht from El BalÃs, Arenys, Mataró, Masnou, Barcelona and Port d’Aro will also participate.
- Classic Yacht will give the elegant touch at the regatta. 9 beautiful vintage boats will do a crossing from Barcelona and sail for the Meresme’s coast.
Apart of the technic excellence El BalÃs wants to offer a complete program, with fideuà , price draws, Maresme’s strawberry (maduixot) degustation, weather forecast on streaming and a village where to comment the regatta time with music and some dancing moments.

The organizer committee confirms that the club crew team has built two new ramps for the dinghy area. Those ramps will be located at the gas station dock. Where you’ll find the heats which follow: 420, 29er, Laser, and Optimist. This can just means that:- The heat will get to the racing area faster.
- Ramps will be assigned to the different heats by the organization.
- Boats will be raised to the esplanade faster so you’ll have more time to enjoy our village.

Those are some of the yacht you’ll see sailing in the race. Delight yourself with their elegance close to the Village.
With the AEBEC collaboration and the mobilization of the Catalan fleet, Catalan classics will compete for first time in the Medsailing with a heat schedule consisting on two courses. On Saturday from Barcelona to El BalÃs. And on Sunday, depending on the direction of the wind, they will show their majesty to the NE or the SW of the Catalan coast.

We are close to the maximum number of entries for the clinic, so if you are coming please confirm your place by sending us your entry form!
Some top sailors coming from abroad and all over Spain will attend the Resano bros-Optisailors Clinic + Med Sailing Meeting Regatta, and many of them will use it as preparation for Worlds´ and Europeans´ 2012:
- Henry Daniels, David & Lawrence Wilson, TOP 5 in Southafrica and already qualified for Worlds´
- Harry & Johnny Durcan, Ben Walsh, Ross Morgan, Ronan Cournane and Nell Staunton are coming from as far as IRELAND, and most of them are part of the National Team.
- Alex Esposito and sister Katy are coming from Malta, and Alex is also qualified to represent his country at Worlds´
- the best 2 Portuguese sailors of their National Team: we will know their names after selection is finished next week!
- and finally some of the best Spanish sailors, who are still fighting for a place in the National Team such as Canary Elias, Murcian Antonito and all the best Catalans
